Member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame
One of the greatest football players of all-time, Jones was the "Secretary of Defense" with the Rams' "Fearsome Foursome." Amazingly, he was a 14th round pick by the Rams out of Mississippi Vocational College. He appeared in eight Pro Bowls (1964-'70, '72) and was selected as the N.F.L. Defensive Player of the Year in 1967 and '68. Jones played for the Rams from 1961-'71, the San Diego Chargers for two years, before finishing his career with the Washington Redskins for a season. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1980. Jones died at age 74 from natural causes.
