Member of the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame.
Only the third high school runner to break four minutes for the mile,Liquori attended Villanova University and made the 1968 Olympic team as a freshman, placing 12th in the 1500 meters. While running for the Wildcats, he won three-straight NCAA one mile titles from 1969 to 1971, also capturing the National AAU one mile titles in 1969 and 1970. In all, he won 14 national titles ranging from one mile to 5,000 meters. He won the 1971 Pan American Games title at 1500 meters. He also was second in the 5,000 at the 1977 World Cup. He was number one ranked in the world by Track and Field News twice at 1,500 meters (1969 and 1971) and once at 5,000 meters (1977). Injury prevented Liquori from competing in the 1972 and 1976 Olympics Games, where he would have been a definite medal contender.
