1982 MEN'S FINAL

Renaldo Nehimiah was placed into the final as the defending champion even though he was forced to withdraw from the first preliminary after one event due to injury. He was able to defend his title fairly easily. His win in the gold, along with a clean run in the obstacle course that was close to the record made him only the second athlete to win two Superstars titles. Actually, Lofton, Collinsworth and Gastineau each had a chance to win entering the obstacle course, but Nehimiah won the event to extend his lead. One of the more spectacular moments came when Mark Gastineau crashed into Bob Seagren in the bike final. Nolan Cromwell suffered from a hamstring injury which forced him to withdraw from the half mile and obstacle course, both events where he could have been a major factor. ABC covered the event live for the second straight year, showing the final four events live.
