Maynard was a ninth round selection in 1958 by the New York Giants out of Texas Western College. He was released by the Giants at the end of the season and played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the C.F.L. in 1959, before returning to New York and the citys' A.F.L. franchise, the Titans. Maynard played ro the Jets through 1972, and spent 1973 with the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams and 1974 in the W.F.L. with the Houston TExans and Shreveport Steamer. In 15 seasons, Maynard accumulated 11,834 yards. He became the first receiver over 10,000 yards for a career and held the N.F.L. (/A.F.L.) record until Charlie Joiner bettered him. Maynard was a member of the Jets' championship team in Super Bowl III. Maynard was a five-time All-A.F.L. selection (1960, '65-'69) and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
