Four-Time World Individual Pursuit Champion
As an amatuer, Porter won a bronze medal at the 1963 World Championships in the 4000 meter individual pursuit. At the 1966 Olympics, he qualified fifth and was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Porter took a gold at the 1966 Commonwealth Games and then turned professional. As a professional, he won the 5000 meter individual pursuit championship in 1970,'73 & '73, as well as a silver in 1969 and a bronze in 1971.
