Puhl played 15 seasons in the majors, 1977-1990 with the Houston Astros and 1991 with the Kansas City Royals. He was an All-Star selection in 1978. In the 1980 National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Puhl batted a then-record .526. He finished his career with a .280 lifetime average with 62 homeruns.
