1976 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 3

Six baseball players took on athletes from five other sports in the third men's preliminary. Philadelphia Phillies slugger Mike Schmidt edged water skier Wayne Grimditch for the win, with another baseball power hitter, Dave Kingman, taking the third qualifying spot. Jim Blears set a record of 1:06.32 in the swimming and Dave Kingman set the rowing record of 38.33. Carl Yastrzemski participated in the tennis, but subsequently withdrew from the remainder of his events.
