1972 Olympic 800 Meter Freestyle Champion
At the 1972 Olympics, Rothhammer captured gold in the 800 meter freestyle, bronze in the 200 meter freestyle and finished 6th in the 400 meter freestyle. At the 1973 World Championships, Rothhammer captured gold in the 200 meter freestyle and silver at 400 meters. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1991.
