1972 Double Olympic Champion
Ruska earned the 1967 world championship in the heavyweight division and captured a silver medal at the 1969 worlds in the open category. He took another world championship in 1971 as a heavyweight. At the 1972 Olympics, Ruska capped his career with gold medals in both the heavyweight and open divisions. Following his judo career, Ruska spent time as a professional wrestler. He suffered a disabling stroke in 2001.
