1976 Olympic 1000 Meter Champion

Mueller won the 1000 meters in Speed Skating the first time it was contested at the Olympics in 1976 in Innsbruck. He was third in the World Sprint Championships in 1976 and second in 1977. Mueller was also 5th in the 500 in 1976 and 5th in the 1000 in 1980 at Lake Placid. Mueller later went onto coach Bonnie Blair, Dan Jansen and Marianne Timmer to Olympic gold medals. Mueller was married to triple Olympic bronze medalist Leah Poulos and later to Timmer. Mueller was fired as coach of the Norwegian team in November 2009, due to allegations of sexually harassing skater Maren Haugli.
