1981 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 1

In 1981, Preliminary rounds only had seven events with each athlete choosing 5 in which to compete. The events varied in each preliminary. The first preliminary of winter athletes saw the elimination of rowing, golf and bowling. This was also the first year that the Superstars were held in Key Biscayne, Florida. Peter Mueller won the preliminary which saw three of the SportsCentury's 50 greatest athletes compete: Wayne Gretzky, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Julius Erving. Records indicate that Ron Duguay of the New York Rangers finished second with $7,500, which would mean a total of 25 points scored. My records are incomplete. I wrote down the results as I watched the competition, but had to leave before the obstacle course. I do not know the fifth place finisher in the obstacle course and I am missing two points from Duguay's score.
