1976 EUROPEAN FINAL

After five heats throughout Europe, eleven men gathered at the Ahoy Stadium in Amsterdam for the second European Superstars. Heat winners Kevin Keegan and Bjorn Borg were unable to attend, and each of the hosting nations were guaranteed a representative. Unfortunately for the British representative Gareth Edwards he had a case of the 'flu and could only compete in four of hsi eight events, even so he gathered 20 points for sixth place. Austrian ski jumper set a record of 53 parallel bar dips, but still finished behind the defending champion, Swedish pole vaulter, Kjell Isaksson in the event. It was Isaksson who easily won again, winning five events to beat the field by 20 points. Because of the large number of competitors, the scoring system was adjusted to 10-8-6-4-2-1. Seven of the top eight finishers would advance to the first ever World Superstars the following March, Swedish speed skater Johan Granath was unable to attend due to speed skating commitments.
