Fielding, a wing, played both rugby union and rugby league internationally for Great Britain. He played ten times for England in rugby union from 1969-'72. He switched to rugby league and played eight times for England in 1975, including the World Cup. He played four times for Great Britain from 1974-'77, including the 1977 World Cup. His rugby league club was Salford, where he played from 1974-'77, scoring 253 tries in 319 matches.
