Jacks participated in judo's first Olympic appearance in 1964, finishing 9th. He captured a bronze medal at the 1967 World Championships. Jacks won the middleweight bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics and finished 11th at his third Olympics in 1976. Jacks was the European Champion in 1970 and 1973 and also captured a European silver and three bronze medals.
