1978 SUPERTEAMS FINAL
Just as they had in the football preliminary, the Cowboys won the first three events. And just as they had the week prior, they lost the next three. This set up a decisive tug-of-war. Following the 16 minute ordeal between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings in 1975, organizers placed a ten minute cap on the preliminary tug of war comeptitions. However, there was not such time limit in the final. There should have been. The Royals and Cowboys locked in position for well over an hour when it became obvious that neither team was going to budge any time in the near future. If neither team could decide the event by one hour and fifteen minutes, the tug of war and the entire Superteams event would be declared a draw. The Cowboys tried to surge, but the Royals held firm and after one hour and fifteen minutes, the Superteams had two very exhausted co-champions.
