1978 SUPERTEAMS BASEBALL PRELIMINARY
The anticipated match-up was to be a World Series rematch between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. However, in the last year the Yankees had inserted a clause in each player's contract prohibiting them from participating in off seasons sporting events. The American League West champion Kansas City Royals were invited instead. It is unclear if the Yankees barred players from Superteams due to fear of injury or as a result of the 7-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds the year before.
